Celebrating the oral storytelling tradition by spreading stories...
Hi all, is this 10 year old appropriate? and for Fridays event is it 10 year old appropriate as well? thanks so much :)
Hi!Thanks for your question. Both What the Folk and the Storytelling events are aimed at adults. Occasionally we have had older kids who are interested in folk tales and folk songs. Keep in mind, the folk tradition can be a bit gruesome or risqué...dying from a broken heart, cheating spouses, murdered lovers, etc... The theme for What the Folk this week is Food so there may not be much that's horrifying in that unless it's fast food. :)I guess it's up to you as you know your child best....if they enjoy tradition oral storytelling and folk music...and are not prone to nightmares, etc..I will check with Nancy about her content as sometimes she tells the story of a shipwrecked woman on Sable Island who has her finger chopped off by wreckers looking for jewelry. You could always try out the first half...we usually take a 15 minute break around 8pm.And it is a listening crowd....but I was a story listener when I was a child too...used to sit quietly in a corner listening to stories so I wouldn't be sent to bed!Hope to see you!Cindy
