Storytelling Celebration, a Sore Face, and Bagpipes?

A record crowd gathered for the celebration of World Storytelling Day on Thursday, March 11th at Just Us Cafe on Spring Garden Road. I could only stay for half of the event because of other commitments, but Wow!...what a variety of stories! Two of the stories I heard were so funny, I left with a sore face from laughing.
If you were at this event, please comment at the bottom and let me know how the rest of the evening went....I've heard rumours there were bagpipes and stories??? Sorry I missed that.

If you missed it, here's a run-down of the fantastic variety of stories shared.

Cindy told "The King with Horses Ears", inspired by a version she heard from Bat Burns last year.

Linda shared some childhood memories of "Light and Shadow", this year's WSD theme.

Two of the visiting Katimavik students told:

Diane had us laughing with an outhouse caper on a Saskatchewan camping trip (not funny to her!).

Nick, from Burnaby BC, recounted the group's road trip to Cape Breton, discovering joy in a little light in life.

Betty gave a lovely rendition of "The Shepherd Who Dreamed of Flying", based on Ursula LeGuin.

Kasandra told of some "little white lies", including her mother's imaginary twin!

Tom took us back to his boyhood in wartime England, with the triumphant bonfires of V-E Day.

Rob recounted his Scottish story of "Robbie MacDonald and the Blind Piper."

Robert showed a piece of green sea-glass, expressing his disappointment that it had not magically brought him more stories, although it did evoke images of mermaids and fog.

Donnie pitched in as usual with a story in Gaelic and English, of a farmer's first visit to the cinema (he thought the thunderstorm in the movie would ruin his hay!)

An evening of words, and laughs, and wonder can refresh and renew you. Come and listen April 8, for "wonder is a very valuable thing".
