Hi everyone,
I hope that you all had a glorious lazy summer and are now rested and
ready to get back to our Friday frolics at Chebucto Coffee. Our
first session of this new season will begin on Friday, September
27th to correspond with the first day of Culture Days. Over the
weekend, The Helen Creighton Folklore Society will be offering the following
presentations at the Alderney Gate Branch of the HRM Regional Library.
Saturday, September 28, 2:30pm - Folk Music of the
Maritimes
Kate Dunlay and Margo Carruthers will examine the Creighton collection
and others through examples of traditional music styles and
folksongs.
Sunday, September 29, 2:30pm - Folklore of the
Maritimes
Clary Croft will examine the collection of his late mentor - Dr. Helen
Creighton - through examples of stories, beliefs and songs.
Monday, September 30, 7:00pm - Folktales & Storysongs of
the Maritimes
Cindy Campbell Stone will examine the Creighton collection through
examples of stories, storysongs and ballads.
There was a new moon on September 5th which would have been Helen
Creighton's 114th Birthday. So... in honour of Culture Days and Canada's First
Lady of Folklore's undisputed place in preserving our culture, WTF! invites you
to celebrate this New Moon Month and New Season of WTF! by sharing your
"New" songs or tales or "Moon" songs or
tales.

WTF! is an artistic outreach program of the Helen Creighton
Folklore Society. We meet every second and fourth Friday of the month at
CHEBUCTO COFFEE, 6430 Chebucto Road, corner of Chebucto & Kline in Halifax
where Mike's extraordinary culinary fare is approaching legendary status. Come
early for a bite and stay for the entertainmentwhich starts around 6:30 and goes
until 9:00ish. As always... admission is by free-will donation towards the
Society's work.
